Risk Management and Compliance

Getaway Trekking was originally founded by an Outdoor Education Teacher at a Melbourne college.

Original Risk Documentation was written to Victorian Education guidelines and has been continually reviewed and enhance since. Getaway Trekking’s work with the school market requires documentation to be thorough, relevant and up to date.

In working with Cherrybrook Technology High School, Getaway Trekking – through its school program Adventure School Treks – recently became the first trek operator to be approved to escort a NSW Government school across the Kokoda Trail.

Our understanding is that though there have been previous NSW schools trekking in this area, they have either been private schools, or the schools have trekked informally – that is, they have not had official approval.

Our advice is that we are the first operator to have been approved. We are proud of this, and believe it accurately reflects our thorough and systemised approach to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience to all of our customers.

We also believe this speaks more about our attention to Risk, to OHS and essential policies and procedures than we ever could.

All Adventure School Trek leaders are qualified in Remote First Aid, and all GT leaders working with minors hold current Working with Children accreditation.
